Thermal printing market changed drastically when Japanese company joined forces to produce some other high standard thermal papers. The Japanese used the old based designs that were based on dye. The companies normally targeted supermarkets in the world. American thermal paper companies also joined forces in order to fight off pressure from the Japanese thermal paper producers who were by now taking over the thermal paper industry in the world. The American based thermal paper manufacturers targeted companies and this turned out to be a smart move since they maintained stable sales even after the advancement of the Japanese companies in the early 1970s to 80s. The companies kept on fighting for customers in a bid to make sales. This was to change a few years later with other companies and countries coming into the thermal paper market.
The game changed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Companies started to develop more and more durable thermal papers. People started receiving new foams of thermal papers. New machines were developed that included laser printing, electrophotography and other types of printing. Thermal paper was now starting to be used in a multiple manner and this pushed for the development of durable papers that could be used under different situations and standards as well. Thermal transfer was still very much usable and was the most proffered by many thermal users since it was cost economical and pocket friendly compared to the other forms. Inkjet printers were also introduced in the 1990s and this was when the use of thermal paper started to go downwards. Companies struggled to produce better thermal papers that would last longer and be more durable. This made competition very stiff in the 1990s. Companies started to experience low sales of thermal paper.
With the advancing technology that was gaining momentum by every passing day, thermal paper started to lose its dominance in the world market. A new form of paper came into the market and took over the dominance of thermal paper. Plain paper was introduced to the paper market. Plain paper had a lot of advantages compared to thermal paper. This proved a bit hard for thermal paper to survive in the world market. Plain paper was good due to durability and resistance against fading. The biggest weakness of thermal paper was turning of color once exposed to any form of heat.
Plain paper took over the world market at the late years of the millennium almost making thermal paper extinct in the world market. Many businesses and people turned to plain paper. They started using the plain paper and many adapted to the plain paper. However thermal paper made a come back in the world market when businesses realized that plain paper was a bit too expensive. Businesses started to use thermal paper in printing receipts and other documents that didn’t need storage for a long period. Thermal paper regained ground and is still very much usable by many businesses in the world.
