3 Places You should Never Store Thermal Paper Rolls

When you own a business, the last thing you want to do is waste your money. If you store your thermal paper rolls improperly, it is essentially the same thing as throwing your money down the drain. No one wants to do that. To help ensure your thermal paper rolls aren’t damaged or ruined, learn about the three places you should never store them.

Keep it Out of Your Vehicle

There are two main reasons you need to keep your thermal receipt rolls out of your vehicle:

  • Sunlight

  • Heat

The optimal temperature for storing your thermal paper roll is under 77 degrees Fahrenheit. If you happen to leave your thermal paper rolls in an open box in your vehicle or in the direct sunlight, the paper is likely going to turn gray. In extreme situations, it may turn completely black, which makes it totally useless.

Keep Your Thermal Paper Out of the Walk-In Cooler

The proper humidity levels for storing your thermal paper rolls is between 45 percent and 65 percent. Walk-in coolers, depending on how they are used, may have an inconsistent or much higher level of humidity because of the fluctuations in the temperature that occur. This humidity level can result in the paper becoming damp, which will result in paper jams when it is put in the printer.

Avoid Storing Your Thermal Paper Rolls in the Kitchen

If you store your thermal paper rolls in the kitchen, close to ovens or near open flames, you may run into issues. Besides the fact that open flames and paper are a bad idea, the heat produced from these sources is similar to sun exposure and will begin to turn the paper black or gray. This is why kitchens will always use carbonless or bond paper to print the received orders.

You have to take certain precautions to ensure your thermal paper rolls are not damaged. If you fail to do this, you may discover that the paper is unable to be used when it is needed. In most cases, it is best to have a dedicated storage location for your thermal paper, to ensure it remains in good, usable condition. Avoiding the locations mentioned above will also help ensure you aren’t wasting your money by ruining the paper before you have the opportunity to use it.
